Nathan Douglas Davin pleads guilty

Court file #69DU-CR-25-2700

Today in district court in Duluth, Nathan Douglas Davin, 47, pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree, with Intent, not Premeditated, for the August 16, 2025, murder of his mother. The Honorable Chief Judge Leslie Beiers presided over the case and set a tentative sentencing hearing date of July 16, 2026.

On August 16, 2025, law enforcement responded to a report of a fatality at a residence on Ninth Avenue East in Duluth. Mr. Davin was found at the residence with blood on his hands. Inside the home, officers found Mr. Davin’s mother in a recliner deceased from a devastating gunshot wound to her face. The firearm used in this matter was found in Mr. Davin’s bedroom. Mr. Davin was taken to the Duluth Police Department headquarters during the investigation. While sitting alone in an interview room, Mr. Davin admitted to killing his mother.

The plea agreement provides that Mr. Davin will be sentenced in accordance with the presumptive range of sentences set forth in the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines. Both the decedent’s family and law enforcement support the timely and certain resolution of this matter with a Guidelines sentence, which will also provide some measure of closure. Pending sentencing, Mr. Davin was remanded to the Commissioner of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.  Mr. Davin had no serious criminal offenses prior to committing this murder.

The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office credits the successful resolution of the case to the Duluth Police Department and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Their diligent work in investigating this difficult case made this resolution possible.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Kirstyn Oye and Criminal Division Head Nathaniel Stumme.
