Student with toy gun
On May 21st, 2026, at 1539 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, along with numerous other law enforcement agencies, responded to the Cherry School, due to a report of a student having a gun in their backpack. The student was reported to be with the school Social Worker, in her office, at the time the incident was reported.
Just prior to Law Enforcement's arrival, the 10-year-old student handed over a small, plastic, toy gun, to the school Social Worker and their guardian, who was also at the school. St. Louis County Sheriff's Office Investigators spoke with staff and the student. As a result of the investigation, it was determined no threats were made to any staff or other students.
The student has since been suspended for the remainder of the school year.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office would like to thank all responding Law Enforcement agencies for their quick response and assistance with this incident.
