Demetrius Remond Norwood pleads guilty to Attempted
Second Degree Murder
Court file # 69DU-CR-25-3156
Today, Demetrius Remond Norwood, 37, pleaded guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree – With Intent, Not Premeditated, St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said. The Honorable Chief Judge Leslie Beiers presided over the case and set a sentencing hearing for July 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
On September 24, 2025, while drinking with friends, Mr. Norwood became angry at a female friend. He went to her house while she was away and began yelling at her over the phone. As she pulled up to her house, Mr. Norwood ran towards her vehicle and said he was going to kill her. Believing she was in grave danger, the victim sped away from her house. Mr. Norwood shot at her twice as she was driving away, with one bullet striking the trunk of her car.
The plea agreement provides that Mr. Norwood will be sentenced in accordance with the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account his criminal history. Pending sentencing, Mr. Norwood was remanded to the Commissioner of Corrections to begin serving his presumed prison sentence.
The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office thanks Duluth Police Department for their diligent work in investigating this matter.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Vicky Wanta.
