Michael Todd Hart Pleads Guilty

Court file # 69HI-CR-25-433 and 69HI-CR-26-108

Today, before the Honorable Michelle Anderson, Michael Todd Hart, 41, pleaded guilty to Felony Burglary in the First Degree – Occupied Dwelling, Misdemeanor Assault in the Fifth Degree, and Gross Misdemeanor Violation of a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO), announced St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki. The charges arose from two separate cases.

In the first case, Mr. Hart broke into a residence and assaulted two people inside the residence. Mr. Hart sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen during the break-in. In the second case, Mr. Hart was found in the presence of a person who had an active DANCO against him.

The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office credits the successful prosecution of these cases to the thorough investigation by the Hibbing Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 18, 2026, at 3:30 P.M. Pending sentencing, Mr. Hart was remanded to the Commissioner of Corrections to begin serving his presumed prison sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Range Criminal Division Head Bonnie Norlander.

Mr. Hart’s case for escaping from the Northeast Regional Corrections Center in the fall of 2025 remains pending in state district court in Duluth.
