2026 Northeast Minnesota Criminal Justice Summit
Today, the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office hosted the 2026 Northeast Minnesota Criminal Justice Summit at the Pike Lake Golf and Beach Club. Nearly seventy law enforcement officers, prosecutors, victim advocates, and social workers from throughout the region gathered for training designed to enable them to better serve the public. Training topics included skills for interacting with and interviewing people with disabilities, Minnesota’s extreme risk protection order (“red flag”) law as a tool to prevent firearm-related tragedies, and an exploration of a past criminal case that provided helpful practice tips for attendees.
The Summit coincides with National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (April 19-25, 2026), which is an annual celebration of laws that established victim rights in the criminal justice process. It is also a call to action to promote laws, policies, and programs that help victims of crime. This year’s theme is “Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect victims, serve communities.”
“We’re honored to host the 2026 Northeast Minnesota Criminal Justice Summit and to bring criminal justice system stakeholders together for training, networking, collaboration, and fellowship,” said County Attorney Kim Maki. “Learning skills to better serve victims of crime will lead to better cases, better outcomes, and healthier communities.”
The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office thanks the presenters, attendees, and all who contributed to the Summit’s success.
