NOTICE OF INTENTION TO ENACT AMENDMENTS
TO ST. LOUIS COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING ORDINANCE
ORDINANCE NUMBER 62
Notice is hereby given that the St. Louis County Board of Commissioners is expected to enact amendments to the St. Louis County Planning and Zoning Ordinance – Ordinance Number 62 at its regularly scheduled meeting at 10:00 a.m. on May 5, 2026 at the St. Louis County Courthouse – Duluth, 100 N. 5th Ave. W., Duluth, MN 55802.
Some of the key features of the draft Zoning Ordinance amendments are as follows:
- General grammar clean-up.
- Added definitions for clarity.
- Nonconforming structure language.
- Lot of record language.
- Airport zoning language.
- Streamlined extractive use (borrow pit) language.
- Resource exploration language.
- Zoning text amendment language.
A public hearing on the proposed amendments was held on April 14, 2026. Public testimony revealed significant citizen opposition relating to data centers and inoperable vehicles. Therefore, the Zoning Ordinance amendments that will be considered on May 5, 2026, DO NOT INCLUDE:
- Proposed changes to Section 5.5J relating to data centers.
- Proposed changes to Section 6.25A relating to inoperable vehicles.
