Structure fire

On April 21st, 2026, around 12:16 P.M., the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a grass fire near the 1900 Block of Sheldon Road in Ellsburg Township. The caller described the fire as "big".

Deputies, local Fire Departments, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) responded to the scene. The fire grew quickly due to the dry conditions, however, resources were able to get the fire under control. The fire consumed a few out buildings on the property, however no habitable structures were damaged. The fire is no longer a threat to the area and is contained.

The DNR took over the investigation in regards to how the fire started. The female caller is facing formal charges resulting from the negligent fire. The DNR has taken over the investigation and the females name is being withheld at this time.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the DNR, DNR's air support, and local Fire Departments.
