Public Health and Human Services releases 2025 Community Impact Report
The St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) department has released its annual Community Impact Report. The Community Impact Report shares stories, statistics, and insights that highlight the impact of the work done by PHHS to serve county residents and communities, available in an interactive online format.
This report is created annually to inform the public about the efforts of PHHS to help thousands of people and families in St. Louis County achieve a better life through their work in five divisions: Behavioral Health, Children and Family Services, Economic Services and Supports, Home and Community Based Services, and Public Health. Meant to serve as a snapshot in time, the report communicates the breadth of services and impacts.
New this year, in recognition of state and national concerns about fraud, the report highlights St. Louis County’s commitment to program integrity with specific examples.
Some highlights from this year’s report:
- The Behavioral Health Division's Housing and Homelessness Unit applied for and coordinated over $5 million through competitive state and federal funding to support local community organizations. Additionally, through the SLC Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program (FHPAP) 759 households at risk of homelessness or experiencing homelessness were supported to maintain or obtain housing.
- Children and Family Services planned a new Family Preservation unit to better support children and families facing school attendance challenges and in-home child protection concerns. Staff work alongside families, schools, and community partners to understand what’s getting in the way—and connect families with the help they need.
- Economic Services and Supports, which determines eligibility for State and Federal programs, processed healthcare eligibility for 42,786 individuals through Medical Assistance (Medicaid); and assisted a monthly average of 11,000 households (16,563 individuals) to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
- Home and Community Based Services served more than 3,000 people with disability waivers, and an additional 571 people with Elderly Waiver, Alternative Care, and Essential Community Supports - all with the goal of helping people with unique needs to manage their own lives. Also part of this division, the MnCHOICES Intake team triaged more than 7,900 calls, connecting people to information and the next steps to access services.
- Public Health launched new campaigns to better inform people and communities on topics including cannabis use and effects on developing brains, safe storage of medications, perinatal support resources, risks of lead paint exposure, emergency preparedness tips and more.
