County seeks public input on use of opioid remediation funds
St. Louis County's Opioid Remediation Funds Advisory Committee will be hosting two listening sessions to hear ideas from the public on how best to invest its funds. Specifically, the committee is seeking programming ideas to serve people involved in the criminal justice system.
The listening sessions will be:
Tuesday, April 14, 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Government Services Center - Virginia, 201 South 3rd Avenue West in Virginia.
Thursday, April 16, 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Government Services Center in Duluth, 320 West 2nd Street in Duluth.
People wishing to participate virtually in either session may do so by signing up at this link.
Representatives of community organizations that focus on addressing the substance use prevention and intervention needs of individuals involved in the criminal justice system are encouraged to attend. Input received through these listening sessions will help the committee establish its Request for Proposals process for 2026. The county's intent is to request proposals mid-2026, and select projects by early winter, awarding funding for projects to occur in 2027.
St. Louis County established its Opioid Remediation Funds Advisory Committee in early 2022 following the national settlement of a class action lawsuit involving several prescription opioid manufacturers and distributors. The advisory committee continues to offer guidance on use of the settlement funds across broad categories including prevention, criminal justice, treatment and recovery, and harm reduction. The committee has recommended investing in the community through issuing three rounds of funding so far, with the focuses being harm reduction, criminal justice, and upstream prevention.
