Hibbing Assault Suspect Arrested After Pursuit

On March 9, 2026, at approximately 1207 hours, a St. Louis County Sheriff's Office patrol unit in the Saginaw area observed a vehicle wanted by the Hibbing Police Department regarding a violent assault that was reported the previous night.  A traffic stop with the vehicle was initiated which ultimately turned into a pursuit eastbound on Hwy 2 from the area of Saginaw before ending in Proctor.

During the pursuit, the suspect (39-year-old male resident of Duluth) was observed throwing a powdery substance from the vehicle.  The suspect ultimately crashed with two other vehicles in the intersection of Hwy 2 / Boundary Avenue in the City of Proctor before fleeing on foot into a wooded ravine.

Deputies were able to apprehend the suspect after the deployment of a Taser, and he was escorted out of the woods without further incident.  The suspect has been lodged at the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth pending multiple felony charges.

All other innocent parties involved in the crash were assessed at the scene and there were minor injuries reported, none of which resulted in transport via ambulance.

The Hermantown Police, Proctor Police, Minnesota State Patrol, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance all assisted with this incident.
