Snowmobile Crash in Canyon, MN

On 02/21/2026 at approximately 4:16 pm, emergency responders were dispatched to the report of a snowmobile crash with injuries on snowmobile Trail 51, west of Highway 53, near Canyon MN.

Investigation determined that a group of riders were traveling southbound on the trail, and the lead rider, a 58-year-old male from Faribault MN, crested a hill and encountered an unoccupied snowmobile parked on the trail.  The injured rider attempted to avoid collision with the unoccupied snowmobile and was subsequently thrown from his machine and sustained serious injuries.

The injured rider was subsequently transported by air to a local hospital via Life Link for medical attention.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind all snowmobile enthusiasts to always park your machine in a safe location and to make sure it is not a hazard to other riders if there is a need to stop along the trail.

Alborn Volunteer Fire Department, Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, and Life Link all assisted with this incident.
