House fire in Cherry Township total loss

On Saturday February 21st, 2026, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was notified of a structure fire on Herman Rd, in Cherry Township, East of the City of Hibbing.

The homeowner, and only occupant of the residence, called 911 reporting his house was fully engulfed in flames and he was attempting to extinguish the fire.

Initial stages of the investigation indicate the homeowner had been attempting to dry firewood using his interior woodstove, which the drying wood then caught on fire and spread to the interior of the trailer home.

Several area fire departments responded to the scene to battle the blaze; however, the structure is determined to be a total loss.

The homeowner is being assisted by the Red Cross, and there were no reported injuries.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Cherry Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department, Hibbing Fire Department, and the Kinney Fire Department.
