Smoke damages home
On January 6, 2026 at approximately 1204 hours, the Biwabik Fire Department and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the report of a structure fire at a residence in 4800 block of Chestnut Drive located in Biwabik Township.
Upon the arrival of first responders, heavy smoke was observed coming from the residence.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the basement. However, the house did sustain substantial smoke damage.
It is believed that attempts to unthaw a frozen waterline inside the residence was a contributing factor of the fire. There were no reported injuries.
