Thanksgiving rescue

On November 27, 2025 at approximately 12:30 PM St. Louis County deputies and Rescue Squad members responded to the report of a 55-year-old male who had gotten his snowmobile stuck in a swamp, approximately 5 miles northwest of Meadowlands, last night

It was reported that the male had found refuge in a remote cabin where he spent the night.

The male contacted a friend indicating that he planned on walking to the road in the morning.

When the male did not reach the road in the timeframe indicated a friend called 911 to report the matter.

The male was located approximately 1.5 to 2 miles from the trailhead where he had started.

Other than being wet and cold, the male was in good physical condition.

The St. Louis County sheriff's office would like to remind everyone that recent cold temperatures have not yet had time to adequately freeze swamps and other bodies of water allowing for safe travels.
