Assist Canadian Authorities with Search for Missing Male
On Thursday Nov 20th, 2025, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Ontario Provincial Police requesting assistance in searching an area of Lake Lac La Croix near the Canadian/US border. Canadian Officials from OPP, Treaty Three Police, and Community Members from the village of Lac La Croix have been searching for an overdue member of their community, Peter Buckle age 47, who was utilizing his cabin on the Canadian side of the lake. Searches by Canadian authorities had located Buckle's boat and a campsite on Island 25 just over the Canadian border in US waters after checking his cabin and were unable to locate him.
Sheriff's Office and Rescue Squad resources were dispatch to the Lac La Croix village to assist with air (Minnesota State Patrol MART/fixed wing and SLC drone), water, and land searching resources on 11/22/25 and 11/23/25. Searches of the area utilizing all resources were conducted in conjunction with OPP, Treaty Three Police, and Lac La Croix Community resources, however Buckle was not located after extensive searches of the area. The Sheriff's office remains in communication with Canadian Authorities and community members should any further assistance be needed moving forward.

St. Louis County Rescue Squad, St. Louis County Emergency Management, Ontario Provincial Police, Treaty Three Police, Lac La Croix Community, Minnesota State Patrol MART Team and Fixed Wing aircraft.
