Jury Convicts Hamler of Malicious Punishment of a Child
Court file # 69DU-CR-24-3645
On November 7, 2025, a jury found Lashe Darnell Hamler, 30, guilty of Malicious Punishment of a Child and Assault in the Third Degree for causing substantial bodily harm to a child, in a trial in front of the Hon. Theresa Neo. On December 4, 2024, law enforcement was notified by school officials that the victim arrived at school that morning with a bloody nose, cut lip, and hurt shoulder. During a forensic interview conducted by First Witness Child Advocacy Center, the victim stated that his father, Mr. Hamler, had pushed him into a wall, then to the floor causing injuries. According to the child, Mr. Hamler then threw him outside while Mr. Hamler remained inside the home.
“This outcome reflects the dedication and collaboration of our community partners coming together to stand against child abuse,” said County Attorney Kim Maki. “The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office is grateful for the diligent investigation by the Duluth Police Department and St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services, the neutral forensic interview conducted by First Witness Child Advocacy Center, and the professional expertise of Medical Director, Dr. Jennifer Jones. Success in these cases is made possible by this strong partnership.”
The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office also praises the courageous employees of the Duluth Public Schools that reported the injured student to law enforcement.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant St. Louis County Attorney Kirstyn Oye.
