Personal Injury Crash in Rice Lake

On September 26, 2025, at 2003 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, City of Rice Lake Fire and EMS, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Mayo Ambulance were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle accident in the 5100 block of Rice Lake Road. It was reported that it involved a car with two occupants and a truck that was on its side in the ditch.

Upon arrival of emergency personnel, the adult female driver of the car was found to have a serious but what appeared to be none life threatening injury to her leg. She was cared for and transported to Essentia Health in Duluth by Mayo ambulance. The adult female passenger had no apparent injury and was checked out by medical personnel at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 69-year-old Rice Lake man, was uninjured. He was subsequently arrested for Criminal Vehicular Operation. Alcohol was clearly a factor in the crash. The Rice Lake mae was attempting to pull into his driveway on his way home from a local bar. The car did not have a chance to react, and this resulted in a T-bone style crash at highway speeds.

The crash is still under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
