Open House to highlight updates on Rice Lake Road Corridor Project

St. Louis County Public Works and the City of Rice Lake will host an open house to present updates on the Rice Lake Road Corridor project. The open house will be Thursday, October 23, from 6-8 p.m. at North Star Academy, 3301 Technology Drive in Duluth. Project leaders will share results from traffic modeling and environmental reviews, and present updated plans.

The project is anticipated to be transformational for the City of Rice Lake, improving safety and traffic flow along Rice Lake Road, while also opening up new areas for housing and other economic development opportunities.

The Rice Lake Road Corridor Project is funded by a $25 million federal BUILD grant, along with nearly $9 million in state matching funds. Once plans are finalized, work is expected to span three construction seasons: 2027-2029. It will involve reconstructing segments of Rice Lake Road, Martin Road, and West Calvary Road and constructing new city streets. It will also construct a short extension of West Calvary Road, add turn lanes, and convert select intersections to roundabouts. More than five miles of paved trails will also be constructed.

More information about the project can be found online at slcmn.com/Rice-Lake-Rd-Corridor. The project website also provides opportunity for the public to subscribe to receive email updates as work progresses.
