Public Invited to Learn about Community Development Block Grant Funds

The St. Louis County Economic and Community Development Department distributed $1.8 million in federal grant money to communities and non-profit organizations in St. Louis County in the last year. These Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds helped pay for:

  • Chisholm's Memorial Park project, which increased accessibility through playground equipment and pour-and-play slabs.
  • Housing projects, including supporting One Roof Community Housing with the rehabilitation of two homes in southern St. Louis County, and North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity for the rehabilitation of a property in Chisholm and another in Hibbing.
  • Infrastructure projects in Hibbing, Aurora, Ely, and Tower.
  • Twelve non-profit programs offering supportive services for low-income residents and those experiencing homelessness.

Now, as county staff are preparing to launch the CDBG program funding cycle for the next year, they will be hosting an open house and public hearing at the following locations:

Mountain Iron Community Center

Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1-3 p.m.

8586 Enterprise Drive South, Mt. Iron

Proctor City Hall/Community Center

Thursday, Sept. 18, 1-3 p.m.
100 Pionk Drive, Proctor

The agenda will be the same at both, including an overview of Fiscal Year 2024 accomplishments, including from Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) programs.

St. Louis County distributes CDBG funds to communities and non-profit organizations in St. Louis County outside the City of Duluth. (Duluth receives separate funding.)

Questions about the open houses and public hearings or about CDBG funds in general may be directed to Brad Gustafson at (218) 742-9563 or email: gustafsonb@stlouiscountymn.gov.
