St. Louis County waives permit fees for rebuilding after wildfire
To help property owners affected by this spring's wildfires, the St. Louis County Board has voted to temporarily waive the fees associated with land use and septic permits for those trying to rebuild. The waiving of permit fees is valid through January 4, 2026, and is for the replacement of structures lost and for addressing failing septic systems within the disaster area.
St. Louis County Assessor’s Department staff have been visiting sites to assess property damage caused by the wildfires. Initial estimates are that more than 150 structures have been lost or damaged, including 20-30 residential dwellings.
Information on applying for a land use or septic permit can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/pz or by calling the Planning and Zoning Department at 218-471-7103.
Meanwhile the County's Environmental Services Department opened a temporary disposal site for burn debris this week in Brimson. The disposal site is located at the county's old garage at
3115 Highway 44. Operating hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is expected to be open through the end of July. Information on what materials can be disposed of at this location, and what needs to be separated, can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov or by calling 218-749-9703.
