Juvenile injured in ATV accident

On June 28, 2025 at approximately 1203 hours, area first responders and law-enforcement were dispatched to the report of an ATV accident involving a 16-year-old female in the Silica area, located south of Hibbing

It was reported that the ATV, a 700, Yamaha, Kodiak, had tipped over onto the 16-year-old but she has since been freed.

Upon further investigation, it was learned that two additional juvenile ages 16 and 14 were passengers on the ATV.

They had been traveling down a minimum maintenance road and appeared to have caught the shoulder, causing them to strike a tree and roll over into the ditch.

The 16-year-old driver was transported by ambulance to the Hibbing hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two juvenile occupants of the ATV were not reported to have been injured.

None of the juveniles were wearing helmets.

Limited ATV operating experience is being considered as a contributing factor in this accident.
