County to open temporary disposal site in Brimson for wildfire debris

St. Louis County Environmental Services is opening a temporary solid waste collection site in the Brimson area to make it easier for people to dispose of materials damaged by recent wildfires. The collection site will be at the old County garage, 3115 Highway 44 in Brimson. Beginning Monday, July 7, the site will operate Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is expected to be open through the end of July, though may remain open longer if needed. This site is for wildfire debris only. People not affected by the wildfires should not bring garbage to this location.

Among the items that will be accepted at this site: Burned wood, roofing, brick and concrete, other associated building structure items, and personal property damaged by the fire. People also can drop off scrap metal, household hazardous waste, electronics, and tires, though these items all need to be separated. These items will be accepted free of charge.

Items that cannot be accepted at this location but can be disposed of at other St. Louis County Environmental Services facilities include liquids such as gas and oil, and trees and brush. Liquids including gas and oils can be disposed of at the County's Household Hazardous Waste collection facilities at the Virginia Regional Landfill or Hibbing Transfer Station. Trees, brush, and branches can be brought to the Aurora Transfer Station or Virginia Regional Landfill. Addresses and operating hours for these locations can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/waste or by calling 218-749-9703.

St. Louis County Environmental Services is unable to accept vehicle bodies. These should be taken to a scrap metal recycler.
