Water fatality in rural Gilbert
On June 5th, 2025 at approximately 4:18 P.M., 911 received a call regarding a missing individual who had been cliff jumping into a mine pit near Gilbert, Minnesota. Multiple agencies and resources responded to assist with the search.
A male witness on scene stated he saw his friend jump into the water, then resurface. The male then disappeared around the corner and was unable to be seen. After a brief search by the reporting party, he dialed 911.
The male, a 27 year old from the Virginia area, was located deceased in the water after an extensive search. The cause of death remains under investigation. The identity of the male is being withheld pending family notification.

The victim has been identified as 27 year old Axel John Jurva of Virginia.
