Construction of J-turn at Highways 169/25 in Great Scott Township begins June 2

Construction begins Monday, June 2, to build a J-turn at the intersections of Highways 169 and 25 in Great Scott Township. Travelers on Highway 169 should be aware that delays are likely as traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Additionally, traffic on Highway 25 will be detoured through median openings on Highway 169. The project is expected to be complete by early August.

This intersection ranks in the top 1% for risk of all intersections in St. Louis County, having experienced seven crashes between 2014-2023, including a "T-bone" crash that resulted in two people being killed. J-turn intersections are proven to reduce serious and fatal crashes because they eliminate or reduce motorists having to cross multiple lanes of traffic.

St. Louis County Public Works is partnering with MnDOT to complete this project, with funding from the Highway Safety Improvement Program.
