On May 26th, 2025 at approximately 115pm in the 4100 Block of Willard Road in Rice Lake, a St. Louis County Deputy was responding to a report of suspicious male in the area. While attempting to arrest the male, he became physically assaultive with the Deputy. During the course of the assault, the male was able to aggressive strangle the Deputy. The suspect fled on foot, ultimately climbing up a 30' tree, where negotiations took place for 4 hours. Eventually the male came down and was taken into custody and lodged at the St Louis County Jail without further incident. The Deputy involved in the assault was treated and released from a medical facility.
The success of a peaceful resolution to this situation were the combined efforts of: St Louis County Sheriff's Office, Duluth Police Department, Hermantown Police Department, Superior Police Department, Rice Lake Fire Department, Duluth Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance
