School bus incident in Saginaw

On Monday, May 19, 2025, at about 4:33 PM, Deputies responded to the area of Hwy. 2 and Hwy. 33 in Saginaw on a report of a school bus driver who was having difficulty maintaining his lane and seemed to be confused and unsure about his location. The caller was a 15-year-old passenger on the bus and was able to convince the driver to pull over at the Caywood Country Store. Deputies arrived a short time later and determined the driver was not impaired but noted he seemed to be confused as to his location and route. Medical personnel responded and evaluated the driver but did not detect a significant medical condition.

Southridge school officials were contacted and responded to the scene where they took custody of the 14 children remaining on the bus and contacted parents. No one was injured as a result of this incident and no criminal charges will be filed.

At this time, it is unknown what caused the driver to become confused and disoriented. A "request for examination of driver" form will be sent to the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety for review.
