Grass/Wildfires in Ault Township
On 05/11/2025, a large wildfire was reported to have started near the intersection of Brimson Road and Camphouse Road in Ault Township. Current estimates are the fire has reached approximately 750 acres. Currently over 50 structures have been evacuated (houses and cabins) and there is an estimate of 3 houses that have burned down.
Evacuation orders will remain in effect through today May 12th, 2025. Displaced residents should plan on making arrangements for another night away.
As of 1100 hours today, Highway 44 between Indian Creek Road and Brimson Road (North of Hugo's Bar) will be closed to all through traffic until further notice. It is reported that there are many hot spots and flare ups may continue, making the area unsafe.
The US Forest Service is coordinating the response with numerous agencies to battle the wildfire.

UPDATE: 05/12/2025 TIME: 2200 hours
The Ault Township/Camphouse wildfire has grown to over 1250 acres as of this evening. Sheriff Deputies and volunteer St. Louis County Rescue Squad members have reported in excess of 40 structures that were destroyed.
The evacuation order is still in effect and will be reevaluated on May 13th. Hwy 44 remains closed to all traffic from Hugo's bar North to Townline Road, as the fire is still active. So far there are no known reported injuries or loss of life.
