Grass/Wildfires in Ault Township prompt Evacuations

On 5/11/2025, at approximately 1:15 PM, the St. Louis County 911 Center received a call involving a rapidly spreading grass/wildfire in the vicinity of the 2200 block Hwy. 44 in Ault township that was travelling in a Northeasterly direction through the woods. Several local fire departments were dispatched to the area and are actively fighting the fire.  Initial information is a number of cabins, garages and other structures have been affected.  There are no known injuries to any people at this time.

The fire also prompted several dozen residents in the area to be evacuated from their properties.  The Ault Town Hall building has been opened, any affected citizens needing information or assistance are encouraged to check in there for more information.  

At 3:00 PM, the fire was estimated to be approximately 160 acres in size. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

Responding agencies include the following: Brimson Fire Dept., Pequaywan Township Fire Dept.,. North Star Township Fire Dept., Lakewood Township Fire Dept., Normanna Township Fire Dept, MN DNR, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, St. Louis County Emergency Management and US Forest Service.
