Man dies in motorcycle accident

On April 12, 2025 at approximately 4:34 PM, area first responders and law enforcement were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle accident, involving a motorcycle, on Highway 5 near the intersection of Herman Road in Cherry Township, which is located approximately 5 miles East of the City of Hibbing.

The accident was witnessed by a reporting party who indicated the motorcycle had been traveling northbound, on Highway 5, and failed to navigate a turn which resulted in it crossing the centerline and entering the steep waterfilled southbound ditch.

The motorcycle was occupied by only the driver, who was later identified as a 46-year-old, male, Chisholm resident. The driver was ejected from the motorcycle after entering the ditch.

Initially, Good Samaritans on scene attempted to provide lifesaving efforts to the driver however he was later pronounced deceased.

There were no other vehicles involved in this accident and the motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet.

Based upon observations on scene it appears that speeding and alcohol consumption are contributing factors to the accident.

The incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

UPDATE: 4/14/2025

The operator of the motorcycle has been identified as Shawn Harold Hage of Chisholm.  The incident still remains under investigation.
