Bong Bridge suicide
On January 2, 2025 at 12:42 PM, law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel were called to the Bong Bridge in Duluth on a report of a male who jumped from the bridge. St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies located the deceased party on the ice, on the Minnesota side of the St. Louis River. Duluth Fire personnel recovered the adult male's body and brought him back to shore. According to multiple callers, the male was seen removing pieces of his clothing before darting across traffic and jumping from the Lake Side of the bridge, near the center span. At this time the death is being investigated as a suicide. Efforts are underway to notify next of kin.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Duluth Fire Department, Duluth Police Department, Superior Police Department, US Coast Guard and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
