Ashley Cook arrested for 3rd Degree Murder.

On 12/16/2024 at approximately 3:00 PM, member of the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force (LSVOTF) arrested 20-year-old Ashley Rose Cook in the 9200 block of Vinland Street in Duluth following an investigation into a fentanyl overdose death that occurred in the City of Hibbing on 7/30/2023.

On that date, a 25-year-old Mountain Iron man had been found unconscious at a residence in the 11000 block of Town Line Road and lifesaving efforts by Hibbing Police and Fire Departments were unsuccessful. An autopsy performed by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office determined the deceased’s death was caused by the toxic effects of fentanyl.

On 12/17/2024, Cook was arraigned in St. Louis County District Court for 3rd Degree Murder and is being held on $500,000.00 bail. The arrest is a result of a nearly nine-month long investigation by the LSVOTF to hold those accountable who profit off the deadly sale of controlled substances, particularly fentanyl.

Fentanyl is a highly addictive, powerful synthetic opioid, the use of which has grown significantly over the past decade and is now responsible for the majority of overdose deaths in Minnesota.
