Lost Hunters

On October 19th, 2024, at 5:22pm, the St. Louis County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from two lost hunters. A father and son, visiting the area to grouse hunt, stated they did not have any medical issues but were lost.  The Dispatch Center was able to get the cell phone GPS coordinates.  They hunters were in a very remote area, north of Black Duck Lake and south of Sheep Ranch Road.

St. Louis County Sheriff's Office Deputies and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad responded to the area, along with the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR Conservation Officer and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement.

While searching the area, a St. Louis County Deputy and MN State Trooper were able to locate the lost parties and bring them back to their ATV.  The rescued parties stated they had left their ATV and started hunting on foot.  It was at this time, they got turned around and could not find their way back to the ATV.  911 was then called and the lost parties stayed where they were, until located.

The lost hunters were able to drive their ATV back to the resort they were staying at, after being given water and food by rescue personnel on-scene.
