On Monday September 30th, 2024 at approximately 3:40 A.M. St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies and the Cook Fire Department and ambulance service responded to the report of a structure fire in the 200 blk of 1st Ave NW in the city of Cook.

A passerby reported seeing flame above the tree tops from Hwy 53, and was able to locate the source of the fire and called 911. The house was unoccupied at the time, and had not been occupied since the flooding in the early summer of 2024.

The house is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the MN State Fire Marshals Office.
