FEMA updates hours at Disaster Recovery Center in St. Louis County

The strong initial surge of applications for federal financial aid from St. Louis County residents affected by the June flood has already started to slow, allowing FEMA to reduce its operating hours at the Disaster Recovery Center in Virginia. The Center initially was open seven days a week, but will now be closed on Sundays. It will continue to operate Monday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with all appointments on a first come, first served basis.

The Disaster Recovery Center is operating out of the St. Louis County Public Works facility in Virginia, 7823 Highway 135. It is staffed by FEMA representatives, as well as the state of Minnesota and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). People are able to get help applying for federal disaster assistance, upload documents, get their questions answered in person, access other types of help that may be available and learn ways to make their property more disaster resistant.

To date, FEMA has distributed $3,045,000 in grants to 448 approved applications in St. Louis County. The federal financial assistance is available for eligible homeowners and renters to cover costs of temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals recover from the effects of the disaster.

Meanwhile, FEMA representatives will also be at the Cook Fire Hall this Saturday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to assist residents there. The Cook Fire Hall continues to host the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), which opened a Business Recovery Center to serve business owners who sustained damage from the June storm. The Business Recovery Center continues to operate Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
