Truck / Side by Side (UTV) crash with life threatening injuries
On Friday August 9th, 2024 at approximately 2:30 P.M. St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies and area first responders were alerted of a side by side (UTV) that had been rear ended by a pick up truck, in the 10000 blk Osborn Rd, in Great Scott Twp. (approximately 15 miles north of Buhl, MN).
The passenger of the UTV, a 61 yr old female from Blaine, MN, was riding with a 15 yr old female family member from Coon Rapids, MN. The victim suffered life threatening injuries as a result from the crash and was transported to a Duluth area hospital by Life Link III air medical for treatment of those injuries.
The driver of the UTV was transported by family members to Essentia-Virginia for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The driver and lone occupant of the pick up truck, a 17 yr old male from Britt, MN, was uninjured in the crash.
All parties involved in the crash were wearing their appropriate seat belts / restraints, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the cause of the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the MN State Patrol.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the Essentia Ambulance - Buhl, and the Cook Fire Department.
***UPDATE***
The injured UTV passenger, a 61 yr old female from Blaine, MN has died from the injuries sustained in the crash.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
