National Night Out event planned for Cotton

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Cotton Township are coming together to host a National Night Out event. Activities will be held at the Cotton Community Center, 9087 Highway 53 in Cotton, on Tuesday August 6, from 4:30-8 p.m. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free, family-friendly event.

Among the confirmed participants are St. Louis County Sheriff’s deputies with squad cars to tour, a K-9 team and a drone team providing demonstrations, St. Louis County 911 dispatching center, and the Rescue Squad. The event will include a Life Link III helicopter landing - exact time to be determined. Numerous local EMS and Fire Departments will also be attending the event, along with other agencies as their schedules permit.

"The first time we organized a National Night Out event was in Cotton back in 2017," said Deputy Brock Kick, who helps coordinate these events each year. "We've been rotating our location each year among the many townships in our county and having a lot of fun, but it's exciting to be able to come back to where we first started."

The event will include a free community meal while supplies last. Other activities include youth and adult drawings, magic by Amazing Charles, and other child-friendly fun, plus visits by various community leaders.

National Night Out is an annual celebration on the first Tuesday in August held by neighborhoods across the country that strives to promote community and strengthen relationships between citizens and their city’s public safety departments.
