Vista Star strikes breakwater

On July 20, 2024 at 2247 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, US Coast Guard, Duluth Fire and St. Louis County Rescue Squad were called for a report of the Vista Star striking the breakwater in the Wisconsin Entry with 84 people on board. Initial reports were that the vessel was against the breakwater but was not taking on any water. There was a report of an injured party on board. The US Coast Guard responded to the site and evacuated the injured party who was transported to Loon's Foot landing and brought to St. Lukes for treatment by Mayo Ambulance. These injuries were not life threatening.

Upon arrival at the site, it was reported the Vista Star was listing to one side and was in 5-foot waves. The crew of the Vista Star was able to maneuver the vessel off of the breakwater. The St. Louis County Rescue Squad, US Coast Guard and Duluth Fire had responded to the site and escorted the vessel back to the Minnesota Slip where it was docked. The Vista Star was able to make it under it's own power. Duluth Fire and Mayo Ambulance responded to the Minnesota Slip to assess any further injuries. Several people were assessed for minor injuries.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
