Man nearly drowns on Caribou Lake

On July 13, 2024 at 1916 hours, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a medical on Caribou Lake in Canosia Township for a report of a 64-year-old Esko man with difficulty breathing. It was reported that he had fallen off of a jet ski prior. It was later learned that the man had taken a jet ski for a ride and was not wearing a personal floatation device (PFD). While riding the jet ski, the jet ski flipped and the man fell off. The man struggled to stay above water and a good Samaritan saw him struggling in the water. The good Samaritan then responded on his jet ski and pulled the man from the water and to shore where the man lost consciousness. The man was attended to by medical personnel and transported to Essentia Health Duluth by the Mayo Ambulance. The man was stable at the time of the transport.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone of the dangers of being on our abundant, beautiful waterways while not wearing a PFD. Please wear your PFD and use caution while enjoying our waterways responsibly.
