As part of an ongoing investigation, the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force (LSVOTF) received information that Phillip Lamount Davis DOB 12/24/1970 was having individuals transport methamphetamine/fentanyl for him due to being on electronic monitoring. The information also stated Davis was continuing to sell fentanyl and methamphetamine from his apartment in the 600 block of E. 23rd Street in Hibbing despite having previously been indicted in US Federal Court, pleading guilty, and awaiting sentencing in October 2024 for trafficking methamphetamine.
On July 7, 2024, at 1:47 AM, a vehicle believed to be conducting a transport of drugs for Davis was stopped by members of the LSVOTF on Hwy 37 near the Hibbing airport. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and approximately 158 grams of methamphetamine was located.
On July 7, 2024, at 3:47 AM, Davis was arrested by members of the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force outside his apartment in the City of Hibbing. Davis was arrested in connection with methamphetamine that was being transported to Hibbing.
A follow up search warrant was executed at Davis's residence which yielded approximately 32 grams of methamphetamine and 51 grams of fentanyl. Davis was lodged at the SLC jail in Hibbing. On July 9, 2024, a federal warrant was issued for Davis, and he remains in federal custody.
