Public Meeting scheduled to consider traffic safety improvements near Lowell Elementary
Duluth Public Schools and St. Louis County Public Works will be hosting a public meeting to discuss potential options to improve traffic safety at Lowell Elementary School. The meeting will be Monday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m., at the Public Safety Building, 2030 Arlington Avenue in Duluth. Parents and guardians of Lowell students, neighbors and any other stakeholders are encouraged to attend.
The County, School District, and City of Duluth have been working together for months to identify potential alternatives to the current situation which routes cars around a small parking lot outside Lowell Elementary. The resulting congestion leads to safety issues as backups form on Rice Lake Road during peak times immediately before and after school.
Representatives from Duluth Public Schools and St. Louis County will present information about the current challenges, background on what's been done in the past and suggestions for future changes. Community members will have opportunity to voice concerns, ask questions and provide feedback.
The meeting will be livestreamed for anyone unable to attend in person. The meeting can be viewed at https://bit.ly/LowellMeetingLink.
The safety of students, school staff and community members is a top shared priority of St. Louis County and the School District.
