Car accident with injuries  *** Driver Identified

On March 12th, 2023, at 0917 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of Wolf Road and County Hwy 101, in rural Mt. Iron.  It had been reported that a small passenger car had struck a commercial vehicle and the driver of the car was stuck in the vehicle.  

The Mountain Iron Fire Department and the Virginia Fire and Ambulance Service responded to the scene, along with law enforcement from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, the Eveleth Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.  

After being extricated from the vehicle, the driver was airlifted, by North Memorial Air Service, to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, with serious injuries.  The cause of the accident is still under investigation. 

*** The driver has been identified as Roxanne Lego, a 62-year-old resident of Hoyt Lakes.
