Person dies in house fire

On February 25, 2024 at approximately 1:18 PM first responders and law enforcement responded to the report of a residential structure fire, located in the 1400 block of Grant McMahan Boulevard, in Morse Township , near Ely . 

It was reported to 911 that the sole, elderly homeowner was believed to still be inside. 

Upon the arrival of firefighters, they searched the thick smoke fill residence for homeowner however were unsuccessful. 

After getting the fire under control, firefighters located a decease victim inside of the residence. 

Victim identification is pending further investigation by the State Fire Marshals Officer, Midwest Medical Examiners Office and St Louis County Sheriffs Office.

Update: 2/26/24 @ 3:30PM

The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental and started near the fireplace inside the residence.  The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office is currently working on gather medical and dental records to make a positive identification of the victim.  The name of the victim is being withheld until positive identification can be made.

Update:3/14/2024

The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified the Victim in the house fire as 77-year-old Carol Ann Lindbeck.  Lindbeck was the current homeowner and sole resident at the time of the fire.
