Temporary load restrictions announced for four St. Louis County roads

St. Louis County Public Works has announced temporary load restrictions on four gravel roads in the southeastern portion of the county due to deteriorating conditions in this unseasonably warm weather.

Restrictions will be posted effective end of day on Friday, February 23. Vehicles traveling on the following roads will be limited to five tons per axle:

  • Fox Farm Road
  • Two Harbors Road
  • App Road
  • West Knife River Road (gravel portion)

Warmer than normal temperatures has resulted in the ground beginning to thaw. Heavy truck traffic is causing ruts and other damage.

Spring road restrictions typically don't begin in St. Louis County until late March, but are expected to begin much sooner this year. MnDOT has already announced road restrictions for the southern portions of the state beginning next Monday.
