St. Louis County selects Ryan Logan as director of new Planning and Zoning Department

St. Louis County has named Ryan Logan as director of its new Planning and Zoning Department. Logan has worked for the County for 10 years in various roles, including land use and GIS divisions. Most recently, he served as the County's Onsite Wastewater Planning Manager. He's also been overseeing the county's Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Program, and assisting the County's Solid Waste and Septic Committee.

As Planning and Zoning Director, Logan will lead a staff of 12 who are responsible for administering and enforcing land use regulations, including the county's comprehensive plan, zoning, land use permits, and the subdivision of property in all areas where the county is the zoning authority. The department also includes an Onsite Wastewater division that is responsible for the permitting and regulation of approximately 40,000 private septic systems, as well as small community systems. Planning and Zoning also facilitates the county's Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Program and participates in water planning initiatives throughout St. Louis County’s watersheds.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity and to continue to move the department forward," said Logan. "We have a great team and we're committed to continued learning and delivering great customer service to our citizens."

"I am consistently impressed with Ryan's tremendous enthusiasm, people skills and familiarity of the County's ordinances and initiatives," said Brian Fritsinger, St. Louis County Deputy Administrator. "This role requires someone with strong leadership skills, combined with technical knowledge, attention to detail and good communication; and Ryan is able to bring all of that and more as he leads our Planning and Zoning team."

St. Louis County divided its Planning and Community Development Department into two separate departments last fall to better handle the increasing workload and ensure a faster and more thorough response to those seeking land use permits and related services. This led to the creation of the Planning and Zoning Department, and the Economic and Community Development Department. The Economic and Community Development Department is currently led by interim-Director Darren Jablonsky.
