St. Louis County to waive late fee by a day on property tax payments
Due to a problem in the online payment service that St. Louis County contracts with for property tax payments, citizens have been unable to pay their property taxes online today, which is the deadline to pay for the second half of the year. As a result, the St. Louis County Auditor will be waiving late fees for property tax payments as long as they are paid by or mailed with a postmark of October 17, 2023.
Paymentus, the company that provides the online payment service, is aware of the problem and is working to resolve it but has not provided an estimated completion time.
Citizens may continue to check back to pay online, or are encouraged to mail a check or pay in person. Property tax payments can be mailed to: St. Louis County Auditor, 100 N. 5th Ave. W., Room 214, Duluth, MN 55802-1293. Payments can be made in person at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Duluth, the Auditor's Service Center at the Miller Hill Mall, or the Government Services Center in Virginia.
"This is a frustrating situation for all involved," said Nancy Nilsen, St. Louis County Auditor. "The very service that is supposed to make the property tax payment process easier has instead led to inconvenience. This is an issue we have no control over, so instead we will waive the late fee for anyone who pays or gets their check in the mail postmarked by Tuesday, October 17."
