Train vs Semi Ault Township

On September 27, 2023, at 1152 hours the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a CN train versus semi in the 1800 block of Brimson Road in Ault Township. It was reported that a logging truck was struck by a train and the logs were all over the roadway and train tracks and that the driver of the semi was out of the vehicle.

Upon responders arriving on scene, the driver of the semi, a 57-year-old Two Harbors man, was attended to for his injuries and was ultimately transported by the Lake County Ambulance to the St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth for his injuries. The male was conscious and breathing and had been wearing his seatbelt.

Both CN employees who were on the train at the time were not injured. The MN State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspectors were called to the scene along with the CN Police for investigation of the crash. The train consisted of 2 engines and 3 loaded cars. There was no derailment, and no hazardous materials were spilled. The crossing was a remote crossing on the Brimson Road which did contain stop signs on each side of the tracks.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the East Range Police Department, CN Police, MN State Patrol, Lake County Ambulance, the Brimson Fire Department and the Pequaywan Fire Department.
