Tree debris drop off site to remain open two extra weeks
The tree debris drop-off site opened by St. Louis County following the powerful windstorm that knocked down hundreds of trees in and around Gilbert, Aurora and Hoyt Lakes will remain open through October 9, two weeks longer than originally announced. The extended schedule is to assist residents still cleaning up following the September 5 storm.
The county opened the South Gravel Pit, located at 2142 Vermilion Trail (Highway 4), Makinen, and is accepting downed trees and branches from residents at no charge. The South Gravel Pit is open from dawn until dusk, seven days a week. Signs are posted near the entrance to make it easier to identify. The designated area for unloading tree debris is also clearly marked with signs.
The site is open for self-service, though County staff are present at times, and surveillance cameras are in use. No other yard waste, household items, construction debris or garbage is allowed. The county is not offering curbside pickup of debris.
