Boat accident on Lake Vermilion

On September 16th, 2023, at 9:03pm, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a boat accident on an island, on Lake Vermilion.  Members of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office Rescue Squad and the Tower Fire Department responded to Rainbow Island, located in Daisy Bay and discovered a pontoon boat that had struck the island.

1st Responders located a female passenger that had been thrown from the boat, onto the island and provided medical assistance until she could be transported to shore.  The passenger was subsequently transported to the Virgina Hospital, via Tower Ambulance, due to her non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the boat was also transported to shore by 1st Responders and then transported, by ambulance, to the Virginia Hospital as a precaution.

Names of both parties are being withheld pending family notification and the ongoing investigation.  Both parties were from the Twin Cities metro area and were visiting the area on vacation.  It is believed that the nighttime darkness, boat speed and alcohol contributed to the accident.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Tower Fire Department, Tower Ambulance service, the Greenwood Fire Department, the Virginia Fire Department and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
