St. Louis County Board opens gravel pit for tree debris disposal
The powerful wind storm that blew through the Gilbert, Aurora and Hoyt Lakes area on September 5, knocked down hundreds of trees. To assist residents with clean up, St. Louis County is opening a gravel pit to accept tree debris free of charge.
The county is opening the South Gravel Pit, located at 2142 Vermilion Trail (Highway 4), Makinen, beginning this Wednesday, September 13. Residents who lost trees and branches can drop off their storm debris at the South Gravel Pit from dawn until dusk, seven days a week, through Monday, September 25. Signs will be posted near the entrance to make it easier to identify. The designated area for unloading tree debris will be marked with cones.
The site will be open for self-service, though County staff will be present at times, and surveillance cameras will be in use. No other yard waste, household items, construction debris or garbage is allowed. The county is not offering curbside pickup of debris.
