Rice Lake Road to re-open Saturday evening, some delays still expected

Rice Lake Road in Duluth will re-open to thru traffic on Saturday, August 26, by no later than 5 p.m. The road has been closed for approximately three weeks between Arrowhead Road and Public Safety Drive due to work to replace a culvert on Chester Creek.

Even though the road will be open, significant delays are expected to occur next Thursday, August 31, as paving will be occurring near the intersection of Rice Lake Road and Arrowhead Road. Drivers are recommended to use alternate routes that day.

Additional milling and paving of Rice Lake Road remains ongoing, and delays are expected through September 8. Motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution when traveling in or near work zones.

The culvert replacement is a joint project between St. Louis County and the South St. Louis County Soil and Water Conservation District. Funding for the culvert replacement is from a Conservation Partners Legacy Grant sponsored by the State of Minnesota and Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council.
